I don’t normally review products here, but I like Mimobot for three reasons: (1) They took a boring little USB drive and made it fun to carry (and harder to forget or loose); (2) A 2GB USB drive they sent to me in the form of the Jedi Master Yoda, which gives me license to write in the style of Yoda whenever I feel like it (priceless) and (3) The first time I met them, they were cosponsoring the first Boston Twestival to help raise money for water in developing nations. Much important than that, they were genuinely nice people, right up to the top.
Not Just a Drive Is it
A great looking Yoda makes a great conversation piece when you use it at work – or anywhere else. I already have a well loved C3PO Mimobot (it looks like the opening scene in Star Wars IV (the first one). Each Mimobot USB drive also comes with wallpaper, icons, sound bytes and a variety of other “digital extras” that are just fun. Sure, they make a full Star Wars line, including Luke Skywalker, R2-D2. Darth Vader and Stormtroopers, but that’s only the beginning.
Not just Vader and Friends Have They
They have the anti-Geeky Hello Kitty, Tokidoki, Domo, Halo and Happy Tree Friends and some very outstanding original and crowd-sourced characters. (And USA Networks thinks THEY have characters!).
Yes, they were at The Rally to Restore Sanity (and/or Fear), and yes, they have a GURP (Greenbot USB Flash Drive Recycling Program), but don’t let this distract you from the Mimobots being little work horses that are strong and technically sound. Period. And yes, they make great gifts. Not because they sent one to me to review, but because I used one for several years – and will continue to use and enjoy it.
